Tree Pruning
Crown lifting, Crown reduction, Crown thinning, Pollarding and Deadwood/branch removal
The many different forms of tree pruning are used for different situations. We have outlined the most common and significant ones below.
We are more than happy to discuss the best options for your requirements and the health of your tree.

Crown Lifting
This involves pruning the lowest branches of your tree to allow increased clearance under your tree.
Good practice dictates that the removal of large branches growing directly from the trunk should not be done. As this can cause large wounds which may jeopardise the long-term health and future of the tree.
Common reasons for crown lifting include clearance for pedestrians, vehicle access as well as increasing light and space under the tree.

Crown Reduction
This is used to reduce the height and/or spread of the crown of your tree by removing the ends of the branches.
Bear Trees Ltd can reduce the overall volume and visible size of your tree whilst making sure to maintain the tree’s natural balance and shape. Ensuring that your tree still looks like your tree.

Crown Thinning
This process leaves the overall size and shape of your tree the same but removes selected branches within the crown. The removed branches are often dead, splitting or defective.
Crown thinning is a very good way to maintain the health of your tree by allowing more airflow through the canopy of your tree. Whilst also increasing the light passing through to the ground below.

Pollarding
A traditional method of tree management which involves pruning your tree quite dramatically. Your tree is often pollarded to only a few meters high from which shots will often re-grow with great vigour.
Pollarding can be an effective way of greatly reducing the size of your tree while leaving it in an easily manageable condition, as long it is pollarded on a regular basis.
This is not appropriate for all species of tree, but it can increase the health and longevity of certain species. Bear Tres can advise you if your tree is suitable for pollarding.

Deadwood/Branch Removal
Trees naturally produce deadwood as branches die and decay. Unfortunately, deadwood branches have a tendency to fall out of trees and above public areas, roads or gardens this can be hazardous,
So the removal of your dead tree branches before they fall out/or off your tree will improve the safety of people and property below.
Individual selected live branches can also be removed. If they have grown in a weakened (or heavy) manner, obscuring light or causing damage (or obstruction) to property,
